Living in New Mexico, I come across a lot of native jewelry, but this the first caterpillar/centipede I've ever seen, not to mention been able to acquire. It's SO cool! This adorable bug is a bit larger than the insect pins I've previously found and craftsmanship is meticulous. Curved half round wires make up the segments of the thorax and abdomen and taper down from behind the head to the end of the abdomen. Additional half round wires make up the legs and are applied to the underside. A beautifully colored turquoise cab serves as the head and is set in a plain bezel, to which the antennae are attached. The pin measures 1 5/16" long x 5/8" at the widest. As expected, the pin is unmarked, but tests as sterling and weighs 6 grams. It's a wonderful piece that's in excellent vintage condition.
