Marked MÉTAL DORÉ on the gilt interior with an unknown maker’s mark of a capital letter Y or V. From what I could research on this style the origin is likely French. The clasp operates well and seals securely. Minor surface scratches and some tarnishing present due to preowned condition and age. Case is very well made and heavyweight at 149 grams. Please see pictures as part of full description and measurements. Metal doré is brass that has a gold alloy finish over it. Just as Vermeil is gold plating over silver and Ormolu is a gilding technique using powdered gold and mercury. The gold finish was commonly used as a decorative and protective finish intended to prevent tarnishing.
