Each side of the tureen shows the same raised relief work. There are gnomes / dwarves carrying baskets and drinking wine or ale. In the center of each side is a table with a jug and bowls below it and a tureen with a detailed face on top of it. The handles are done in the shape of a mythological creature: Winged Gryphon, dragon or gargoyle. The large lid has a finial of a cat holding or eating a fish. The entire object is decorated in high relief with Gargoyles, griffins, elves, gnomes, relief figures. Old, richly glazed; wickedly formed pedestal ceramic compote. The finish on the tureen is a Smear Glaze. This is a glaze applied indirectly to the surface of the ware by painting a coat of glaze on the inside of the closed container in which the ware is baked. During the baking process, this glaze vaporizes and settles like a fine mist on the surface of the ware. It is used to highlight relief decoration. Vintage - Beautiful condition
