Loeb, Rhoades & Co. Carl M. Loeb, Rhoades & Co. was a Wall Street brokerage firm founded in 1931 by Carl M. Loeb and his son John L. Loeb Sr. It was formed shortly after the start of the Great Depression. In 1937, it merged with Rhoades & Company, becoming Loeb, Rhoades & Co. The firm operated under this name until 1979 when it merged with Shearson Hayden Stone, briefly becoming Shearson Loeb Rhoades before being acquired by American Express in 1981.
