This is an exquisite antique bronze sculpture by Italian Artist Vincenzo Aurisicchio. The piece is titled the "Smiling Urchin" or "Scugnizzo Sorridente". This is an original piece; the bronze patina is in wonderful condition and the detail is wonderful. The bronze is mounted on a red marble base. The piece is signed in two places on the back side. The base is approximately 9 inches (22.5 cm) longand approximately 6 inches (15 cm) wide. From the bottom of the base to to crest of the urchin's head, the piece measures approximately 8.5 inches (21 cm) tall. The artist was born (1855) and spent most of his working career in Naples, Italy until his demise in 1926. The bronze is in excellent condition with no damages or repairs that I can find. There are a couple small chips on the edge of the red marble base; nothing significant and certainly appropriate to the age. The bottom of te base is protected with a felt material that has seen some wear. Wonderful and exquisite art piece.
