Materials: Solid Brass Base Width: 6 inches Height: 10.75 inches Depth: 2.5 inches Two Heavy Brass Door Stops of one of the earliest fictional British comic strip characters from the show "Ally Sloper". Ally Sloper is red-nosed and blustery, an archetypal lazy schemer often found "sloping" through alleys to avoid his landlord and other creditors. Mr. Alexander "Ally" Sloper is regarded as the first recurring character in comics, created for the British magazine "Judy" in 1867. In 1884 Ally Sloper came into its own comic strip which ran until a paper shortage due to the first world war in 1914. The Set includes Mrs. Sloper wearing a bonnet and dress, Mrs. Sloper has a child in each arm and a cat sitting at her left foot. Ally is wearing a tall top hat, long coat with tails, he is leaning on an umbrella and has a dog sitting at his right foot.
