First edition, first printing hardcover copy of The Recluse of Herald Square: The Mystery of Ida E. Wood by Joseph A. Cox (The Macmillan Company, 1964). Very rare account of judge Cox and his years-long investigation into the life and death of Ida Wood, who was once married to the politician and owner of the Daily News, Benjamin Wood but disappeared in 1907. A true crime story unlike any other and one with tentacles reaching across the globe. Jacket protected in new archival sleeve but with some rubbing to faces and wear around the edges. Bottom 1.5” of fold of rear liner flap torn and chipped. Boards are straight and clean but with corners bumped. Binding is firm and spine is straight. All pages clean and unmarked though tanned. See photos for condition. Packaged with care and shipped via USPS Media Mail
