A circa 1964 solid sterling Figure 8 racing buckle by Diablo MFG Co. Barrel Racing as a rodeo event judged strictly on time began in the late 1940's and used either the Figure 8 pattern or the Cloverleaf pattern. The Figure 8 pattern was eventually dropped as the Cloverleaf was the more difficult to run. This nicely etched vintage piece was awarded for an event no longer run and is a part of rodeo history. 3 1/2" by 2 1/4". 73 grams in total weight. In very good vintage condition with some surface wear. Marked Sterling and Diablo MFG (without the trident) which denotes the buckle as pre 1950 manufacture. Diablo MFG Co. was founded in 1945 in Oakland Calif. by Clinton DeWitt and Bill Magers. Prior to 1950 the mark did not bear a trident.
