The style is known for its colorful, naive, and surrealistic style. Edward Saidi Tingatinga started the style in the 1960s when he began painting pictures to sell to tourists. The style spread to other parts of East Africa, including Kenya. Mimus was born in 1962 in Nakapanya village. He began painting in 1983 after learning from Mr. Hashim Bushir. He lives in Msasani Dar es Salaam with his family. He likes to paint different animals.
