The statue is a bronze replica of Bacchus by Michelangelo. Bacchus is the Roman god of wine, theater, and religious ecstasy. The original marble sculpture was created by Michelangelo between 1496 and 1497. It depicts Bacchus with a cup of wine in his left hand and grapes in his hair.
